Watermelon "Rafinad"
Watermelon "Refined sugar".
A mid-early variety for growing in open ground and under temporary film covers. The period from full germination to fruit ripening is 78-80 days. The fruits are round, weighing 3.5-4.0 kg. The peel is thin, dense, light green with gray spots. The pulp is bright red, juicy, very sweet and tasty.

Sowing seedlings in early May. Planting seedlings in open ground at the end of May - beginning of June (30-35 days after germination, in the phase of 3-4 true leaves). Planting pattern 100x100 cm.
When grown under film covers, plants are formed into one stem (all side shoots are removed to a height of 50 cm, subsequent ones are pinched over 1-3 leaves), tied to a trellis (the fruits must be hung in nets). It is possible to grow in a free culture spread out.
In the southern regions it can be grown by direct sowing in the ground in April-May.

Watermelon. Citrullus lanatus L.
* The soil in the area should have a neutral or slightly acidic reaction. If you find that the area is suitable for growing pumpkins, thoroughly till the soil in the fall, adding lime. If possible, choose a site on the south side of the house. In the spring, add well-rotted manure or compost (8-10 kg per square meter) and a complete mineral fertilizer (40-50 g of nitrophoska per square meter). Create a frame shelter (such as arches) over the bed and cover with plastic film. Before sowing seeds or planting seedlings, the soil must warm up. This can be achieved by adding organic matter or watering only with warm water. Watermelon tolerates a slight cold snap better than cool soil. In Estonia, pumpkins are grown only in pots. Sow 2 seeds per pot (approximately 0.5 liters) filled with a mixture of peat, humus, and compost (1:1:1). After germination, leave one plant. Seedlings can be planted under plastic only in late May or early June, so don't start growing seedlings until mid-April. Overgrown seedlings will grow poorly . Plant 2-3 plants per square meter. After planting in their permanent location, the watermelon grows slowly; after a few weeks, it begins to send out long roots deep into the growing area. During the first month after germination, the above-ground portion of the watermelon grows slowly, and during this period, the plants resemble small bushes. Once the deep and extensive root system is established, the stem grows rapidly and branches out, with numerous branches covering the area allotted for the watermelon right before your eyes. Monitor this process closely to ensure the plants don't overgrow the bed, as the beds will need to be covered again with plastic after flowering.
